High-tech doctor's appointments can now be accessed directly on campus. This change will transform the inconveinent and unsafe distance of the nearest medical center and allow both students and teachers to receive the care they need without missing school.
Starting March 1st, the school district will partner with Telemedic Inc. to offer students a doctor visit without ever leaving the high school. The systems combine technology with medicine so students and doctors can see and hear eachother through a computer screen.
"I am excited about the possibilities of this new partnership. Currently, when our students need to see a doctor, the students miss an entire day of school, and the parents miss an entire day of work," says principal Loretta Nix.
Examinations will also include the lastest technology, like a camera to look down a studen't throat to detect strep or tonsillitis.
"Dr. [Kelli] Greene in Ozona diagnosed one of the computer technicians with strep throat during our test run. It was incredible," school nurse Juanita Williams says.
Students are also looking forward to all of the opportunities this conveinience will allow.
"When I got sick in the fall, my mom had to wait three days to take me to a doctor in Ozona...I missed five days of school because of that. It was hard to catch up in my classes when I returned," sophomore Hugh Yoman says.
This revolution could not only affect our school but schools all around the district. Several other small rural schools have contacted Superintendent Ricardo Berrien about the progress of the new program.
"This partnership is going to make the school a healthier and more productive environment. Parents will not hesitate to take their children to the doctor because there is no drive and no long wait. This is definitely the wave of the future," principal Loretta Nix says.
