It is pretty obvious that in the last decade we’ve come a long way in redefining, or rather, disregarding the idea of a “normal” life. As different ways of life are becoming more acceptable in society, the conventional family is becoming a thing of the past. Teo Rachael Homann opens up to us on what its like to have two moms.

New Lead: “I have two moms, I have a brother that’s in college, I have a dad that does not live with me but I see him every once in awhile.”

I chose to use a quote from the person being interviewed for my profile story because I felt it added a personal touch to my lead. By using something Teo said directly, a feeling of intimacy to the subject is created. Also, this lead is concise and draws the reader in from just the first four words. Since same-sex parents are a minority in our society (or seem to be), readers will be drawn in and curious to read more.
