News Story: Sex ed debate goes viral
1. Why do you think the reporter’s story is an award finalists? I believe that this story had amazing quotes that really added to the story's content and made it more personable, giving the reader an insight to certain opinions. This writer touched on the school's policies, as well as student opinions, and parent's input, leaving the story well-rounded. This makes the reader question their own school's policy and feel an obligation to do research and possibly make a change.
2. How did the lead add to the story? This lead adds suspense to the rest of the story and makes the reader interested in the rest of the story. By establishing by the very beginning that the mom was a professor of medical humanities and bioethics at Northwestern University, it makes all of her opinions and exertions more valid.
3. Were you able to identify the nutgraph & in your own words write about why Feature stories need nutgraphs in the story? The nut graph explained what was so bad about the sex-ed class and started to explain how Dreger responded to her experience at the school. I think that feature stories need nutgraphs to further explain the lead and even be a transition to even further explanation.
